to enable children to become aware of and develop their connection with nature, through child- led learning, in a natural, nurturing environment.
Our aim is to provide an environment in which children feel happy to explore, discover, become inspired and follow their own ideas. A space where they can relax and take time to revisit, practice and persevere at an activity; building self-confidence and self-esteem.
We recognise that children are individuals, with their own needs and desires. We work on a high adult:child ratio of 1:5, which enables us to support children in safe risk-taking activities such as tree climbing, tool use, storytelling, fire-lighting.
There will always be a minimum of one Level 3 trained Forest School Leader on site, who also holds a Level 2 qualification in Expedition First Aid. All our leaders are DBS checked and have a wealth of experience in working outdoors with children.
...from St. Mary's C of E (Aided) Primary School, Pulborough:
Just to let you know Child A had an excellent day yesterday at Forest school. She came back into class with a huge smile on her face. She appeared refreshed and ready to learn. Nothing was phasing her.
I saw an instant improvement in her body language and her general self esteem.
Class Teacher Your
Parent of pupil at St Mary's Primary School -
Thursday group is what my child focuses on from Monday morning, it truly is making his school time fair and rewarding, and for those children who struggle in the classroom, it reinforces we all shine at something and being academic is not everything, practical skills are also needed in the work place.
You should be very proud of what you're giving these children.
...from Elderflower Fields Festival:
Neil - "We met the Green Caterpillar team at Elderflower Fields. They had pitched at a magical spot in the woodland with logs set around a fire. My daughter was entranced while she took part in a number of different activities and learnt lots of fascinating things. One of her highlights was branding a disc of wood that the team helped her cut from a log but all the activities were lots of fun. There were plenty of staff to look after the children and everyone was very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and gave good instructions"
